Size: 12” x 4” - serving size 2-4 people. Great for an everyday bowl or to entertain friends. It has a bark inclusion along the rim. This adds character without detracting from functionality. And the grain pattern on the inside of the bowl is what I love best about butternut. 

About the tree: Butternut, also known as Juglans cinerea or white walnut, has a soft and smooth texture that carves easily, as its name suggests. Its light to medium brown color features distinctive polygonal grain patterns, appearing at times like spider's web. Butternut's grain patterns are truly stunning and best showcased in the round.

The tree that this bowl originated from was affected by Sirococcus clavigigenti-juglandacearum, commonly referred to as butternut canker. I cut it down before the wood began to decay. It was a large tree, which yielded about 20 bowls and a bunch of firewood.
