This mill came from wood at the junction of sapwood and heartwood, resulting in one side showcasing a lighter hue while the other displays a richer, darker tone.
About the tree: Juglans cinerea, commonly known as butternut. This tree is related to the black walnut tree, but the color is a bit lighter and the wood a bit softer. This mill came from a tree that grew on our property in Monkton, VT. It was the first tree we cut down for woodworking purposes.
