Butternut - 2
Butternut - 2
Size: 10” x 2.25” Single serving bowl. This wide bowl is great for slightly bigger portions. Gotta love the 'X' pattern on the inside of the bowl.
About the tree: Butternut, also known as Juglans cinerea or white walnut, has a soft and smooth texture that carves easily, as its name suggests. Its light to medium brown color features distinctive polygonal grain patterns, appearing at times like a spider's web. Butternut's grain patterns are truly stunning and best showcased in the round.
The tree that this bowl originated from was affected by Sirococcus clavigigenti-juglandacearum, commonly referred to as butternut canker. I cut it down before the wood began to decay. It was a large tree, which yielded about 20 bowls and a bunch of firewood.
