Butternut- 7
Butternut- 7
Size: 7” x 3” Single-serving bowl for snacks, treats, and portion control! It fits nicely in the palm of your hand. I used a blowtorch to char the outside of the bowl.... I just thought it'd be cool and I've seen other craftsmen do it as well. I do like and will explore more of it in the future.
About the tree: Butternut, also known as Juglans cinerea or white walnut, has a soft and smooth texture that carves easily, as its name suggests. Its light to medium brown color features distinctive polygonal grain patterns, appearing at times like spider's web. Butternut's grain patterns are truly stunning and best showcased in the round.
The tree that this bowl originated from was affected by Sirococcus clavigigenti-juglandacearum, commonly referred to as butternut canker. I cut it down before the wood began to decay. It was a large tree, which yielded about 20 bowls and a bunch of firewood.
