About the tree: Acer platanoides, commonly called Norway maple. This mill is incredibly smooth and has a wonderful feel. It's tall. It has a splash of bark at the bottom of the skirt. The tree came from my neighbor in Monkton who cut it down because it was dying. When maple trees decline, the wood starts to decay and creates dramatic contrasts in color. Also, black streaks appear vertically in the wood. We love this type of wood because of these features.
